Our process is customized to each unique application including space, source water quality and desired output quality.
Our System
AquaFiber Technologies is based on coupling
tested technologies in a new way.
Our approach to remediation includes consideration of: source water, desired
outcome and cost. Although our technology is not public, we can tell you that
the innovation is based on coupling tried, tested and accepted technologies
in new ways. We’ve
harnessed some powerful natural processes in order to make them more effective
and reliable. Because our technology is adaptable to specific conditions, it’s
applicable for business, industry, agriculture and government purposes.
While it has been years in the making, our system has numerous components,
such as: the periphyton algae, ozone, our patented floways, unique and patent-pending
pre-treatment techniques and more. Together, they create a system unlike any
other. It works more rapidly than traditional treatment methodologies, it uses
less land, and, is more cost effective. Better still, our approach cleans the
water in the entire water column and oxygenates the sediment, releasing materials
from the muck and making them available for the restoration process.
Keep in mind that our process is customized to each unique application including
space, source water quality and desired output quality. Many other factors
enter into the equation, but no matter how it’s implemented, the results
are always clear and refreshing quality effluent water!
Floways
Our engineered floways are designed to provide optimum space for the
periphyton algae to grow. Periphyton algae adheres to the surface of the floway.
Water is pumped through the floway and over the periphyton algae, which absorb
the nutrients in the water. Because of our years of study, we know the optimum
time for harvesting the periphyton algae, which can be used in other beneficial ways
ranging from soil amendment to textiles.
Ozone
Our process includes ozonation to release compounds in the water and make them
more available to the periphyton algae. It also destroys and makes harmless many
undesirable influent constituents, such as toxins, pesticides and more. It’s
part of our patented process and part of how we maximize the efficient remediation
abilities of periphyton algae.
Periphyton Algae
Periphyton algae is a community of numerous biotics, to especially include
types of benthic algae. Because periphyton algae has a sticky surface and nutrient-loving
nature, it has the ability to uptake and absorb undesirable materials – making
it perfect for the work of cleaning up water.
In addition to nitrogen and
phosphorus, the algae can uptake 84 compounds commonly found in drinking water.
And, because we use indigenous and heterogeneous species of periphyton algae—often
unique blends to the specific source water—the job is done efficiently
and effectively. Periphyton algae takes up carbon dioxide and releases oxygen
at an astounding rate. In doing so, it restores water quality while it revitalizes
the bottom of lakes and rivers, reducing the nutrient-laden muck. Our periphyton algae
can produce 60 to 90 tons of oxygen per acre of periphyton algae, per year.
This oxygen has been shown to reduce lake bottom sediments by more than 12
inches per year. Since our technology cleans the water column itself and the
nutrient-laden bottom sediments, maintaining high water quality is possible.
